Flops: Grownish – Series Review (So Far)

Raise your hand if you’re disappointed AF by Grownish but continue to watch it in hopes that it actually gets better.

I mean does anyone remember the first season of A Different World? With Denise from the Cosby Show (what’s that lil girl name?)? It was…trash. But of course, the rest of the series was #iconic. So sue me if I want the same for Grownish?? But let’s talk about the good first:

Yara Shahidi

Oh you thought I meant her acting? HA! Absolutely not. I mean is it terrible? Not at all. But let’s just some of her scenes are…cringe-worthy. Wait wait wait, we’re focused on the GOOD here (sorry everyone). The good is that she’s on the show in the first place. I mean, let’s be honest – as far as black TV stars go…Yara is IT. She’s stylish, beautiful, and best of all, ya girl is WOKE.

The Realness

Now would I necessarily call Grownish a completely accurate depiction of the college experience? Of course not. But I will say it touches on more real issues than most college shows do/have in the past.

The Cast

Oh you thought I meant their acting?  HA! Absolute not (except for Chloe and Halle, they are sooo funny to me). They’re just a cute group of people.

Okay now moving on to the bad.

Everything else.

Think I’m kidding? I’m not. The characters have little to no chemistry, the acting feels like nails scratching on a chalkboard, and the storyline moves too quickly for us, as the audience, to actually feel anything for anyone.

But do I still watch? OF COURSE! #BlackTVShowsMatter. So let’s just cross our fingers and hopeeee that this one gets better.

˜In Peace & Power,

Netflix n’ Trill
